WHAT DO CLASS A & CLASS B TECHNICIANS DO?

Limited energy technicians install, troubleshoot, maintain, replace & repair electrical systems under 100 volts.

Class A & Class B Technicians can work on the following systems:
Audio/Visual, Data Communication, Programmable & Controlling
instrumentation, Structured Wiring, Sound & Public Address, and
Specialized Control

Class A Technicians can also work on the following systems:
Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm, Closed-Circuit Television, Access Controls,
Nurse Call & Emergency Call

The Limited Energy apprenticeship program serves

Clackamas, Clatsop, Columbia, Hood River, Multnomah, Yamhill, Wasco, and Washington counties.

Qualifying applications will be reviewed and scored according to the point system.  Points will not be given unless the applicant provides written documentation (letters from employers on company letterhead, DD214, course certificates, school transcripts, etc.)

  • Work Experience (on company letterhead)

Minimum State Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the following:

Must be 17 years of age to apply and may not be registered until 18 years of age.

Must be a high school graduate or have obtained the equivalent G.E.D. certificate.

Must have completed one year of high school algebra, integrated math 2, or equivalent post high school algebra course(s) with a grade of “C” or better, or submit equivalent math placement test scores.

Documentation of the minimum requirements listed above must be submitted during an opening to qualify for the program.

All additional documentation must be submitted no later than 4pm on the last day of the opening.

Algebra Requirements, Placement Testing, & Algebra Assistance

The Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee understands the struggles that a Potential Apprentice may encounter when trying to meet the program entry requirements. We would like to offer some assistance with learning the basics of Algebra so that an applicant is able to pass the college placement test.

Algebra assistance available to applicants seeking help with the Algebra entry requirements:

Algebra Help   or    Math League

Obtain a "C" or higher in high school Algebra for one year.

Attend a college Algebra class, scoring a "C" or higher.

Take a college placement test scoring high enough to place you in one of the following math classes:

Portland Community College - Math 70

Clackamas Community College - Math 65

Linn Benton Community College - Math 65

Chemeketa Community College - Math 70

Mt. Hood Community College - Math 80
