Investing in the Future
IEC apprenticeship is one of the largest mechanisms
for training the electrical and communication contracting
industry's future workers. IEC's apprenticeship curriculum
is nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor's
Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. Across the nation
over 10,000 apprentices are being trained through IEC apprenticeship.
Being approved nationally allows IEC apprentices to take
their training nearly anywhere in the country.
We encourage men and women interested in electrical
and communication careers to consider what IEC training has
to offer.
Apprenticeship with IEC Oregon
IEC's program is competency based. This means that an individual
must gain expertise in specific areas before continuing on
to the next level of skills. The unique aspect of the program
allows students to learn theory and skills in the classroom,
and then immediately apply those skills on the job site.
Likewise, when working in the field, an individual will be
provided on-the-job-training (OJT), which can then be used
to help comprehend aspects of classroom theory that otherwise
would be more difficult to understand.
Some of the areas of training include: Ohm's
law, electrical theory, residential and commercial wiring,
fire alarms, interpreting the national electrical code, motors,
transformers and generators, blueprint reading, programmable
logic controllers, fiber optics, parallel and series circuits,
alternating and direct current, electrical design and electrical
grounding.
